Government data released this week shows that the obesity rate in the United States has leveled off over the past five years after steadily climbing, according to an Associated Press report.

Nevertheless, more than two-thirds of American adults are obese and nearly one-third of children are overweight, the AP reported.

Paul H. Wise

Dr. Paul Wise is the Richard E. Behrman Professor of Child Health and Society and a professor of pediatrics at Stanford University. Until July 2004, Wise was vice chief of the division of social medicine and health inequalities in the Department of Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital, and a visiting professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School.

Alan M. Garber

Dr. Alan Garber is the founding director of both the Center for Health Policy (CHP) and the Center for Primary Care and Outcomes Research (PCOR) at Stanford University, where he is the Henry J. Kaiser Jr. Professor; a professor of medicine; and professor, by courtesy, of economics and of health research and policy. His research focuses on methods for improving health care delivery and financing, particularly for the elderly, in settings of limited resources.
