Lisa Sun Hee Park is an associate professor of sociology at the University of Minnesota. Previously, she was an associate professor of ethnic studies at UCSD. She specializes in Asian-American studies, immigrant women's health care, immigrant work and labor, welfare and immigration policy, the sociology of consumption, and environmental inequality. In addition to publishing numerous book chapters, journal articles and policy reports, Park is a co-author of "The Silicon Valley of Dreams: Environmental Injustice, Immigrant Workers, and the High Tech Global Economy," which examines environmental racism in Silicon Valley within the context of Asian and Latino immigration, labor markets and the historical patterns of colonialism. It offers a sobering illustration of environmental inequality and other problems that are increasingly linked to the globalization of the world's economies. A sociologist by training, Park taught at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute for Health Policy Studies at the University of California, San Francisco. At UCSF, she was the project director for a study on the "Impact of Recent Welfare and Immigration Reforms on Low-income Immigrant Women's Access to Prenatal Care, " funded by The California Endowment. Prior to that, Park was a newspaper reporter at The Syracuse Herald-Journal, San Antonio Light and the Albuquerque Tribune. Park received her Ph.D. in sociology from Northwestern University.
